A Arquitetura Originária das Coisas (trecho do texto)

The Original Architecture of the Things (part of the text)

How to build physical shelters for ideas? How to make invisible materials into something tangible without being restricted to a representation, while maintaining their spatial and temporal complex dynamics? The work of Tony Camargo has always involved the construction of devices that somehow reveal the world’s operation, seizing these findings of a real in a certain space between lines and planes. His laboratory of phenomena is constituted by his own materials and concepts. When dealing with the painting, however, there are unmeasurable problems, such as creating a physical shelter for the color in its ambivalent energy of wave and particle.

His work shows us how much we are primitive, even in our most advanced technological processes. The few formal elements at our disposal are combined infinite times by designers, producing all things of our human landscape. Look around: You'll see performances of oval circles on doorknobs and door systems, squares, rectangles and their triangular halves in walls and roofs, distances formed by rows on the streets, maps and so many other ways that structure our society. Different materials forming all artificial life systems. By breaking the interiors of machines in its operations and materials, such as automotive coatings, known as nitrocellulose lacquer, and polyurethane varnish and others kinds on heavy sheets of MDF, Tony Camargo reaches a power of structural synthesis of the resources we have available, so as it had already reached other summaries in previous works, reducing fully virtual and mediatic mass images with his Planopinturas Iconográficas [Iconographic Planpaintings].

His Novas Planopinturas [New Planpaintings] operate by a sidereal mathematics, landscapes formed by elements reduced to its original concept forms - squares, rectangles, circles, oval semicircles, indicatives of movements, obtaining a calculation able to suspend the painting phenomenon at the happening. Tony makes a reduction in the world and puts its operation at a moment of inertia, vibrating and static. The atmospheres conquered by this work maintain a body which vibrates incessantly. Like color fields which get a body to make themselves present before our eyes. Rather than ephemeral movements, the color taken by a moment of inertia, permanent in its movement.
